Former GH woman dies in Fla. house fire

A former Grand Haven woman died in her home after it was gutted by flames Tuesday afternoon, according to North Naples (Fla.) Fire Rescue District Deputy Chief Sal D'Angelo. Barbara Bonny of Naples Park - who celebrated her 71st birthday last month - was a lovely, hard-working and church-going mother and grandmother who worked at the Naples Ritz-Carlton for many years, according to a close friend who knew her for 10 years.

Grand Haven connection

Barbara Bonny was born in Grand Haven to Ray and Lorraine Harz, the second of nine children — according to her older brother, Ray Harz Jr., who still lives in the Grand Haven area.

She married Carl Krause in the early 1950s, and they had two children: Kurt, who lives in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area; and Kevin, who lives with his wife and child in Bonita Springs, Fla. Barbara and Carl divorced, and she then married Pete Bonny, her brother said. Both Carl Krause and Pete Bonny are deceased.
