Area youth pastor wants to start Young Life Club

Youth pastor Russ Gabel said he is well-aware of the challenges and pressures facing students. So he has decided to do something about it. Gabel is launching a Young Life Club aimed at helping Grand Haven High School students deal with those challenges and pressures. Gabel, who operates an outdoor ministry called Freewater Experience, is holding an informational meeting from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Christian Reformed Conference Grounds, 12253 Lakeshore Ave. in Grand Haven Township. Gabel said anyone interested can come to the meeting and learn more.

“I’ve been talking with area youth leaders and teachers about the need for a dynamic youth ministry that targets non-churched students,” he said. “We’re hoping to gather together a group of adults who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of students in the area.”

Gabel said he decided to form the Young Life Club after noticing a significant decline in the past two years in the size and number of youth groups and ministries in the community.

“I think we’re in a pivotal time right now in the life of youth ministry in Grand Haven,” he said.
