Missionary work paying dividends for Tom Braak

Tom Braak beams with pride when he talks about life in Haiti. Braak has been living in Haiti for the past 14 years with his wife, Ficilta; and their son, Ryan. He is executive director of Faith in Action International, a nonprofit organization based in Verrettes, Haiti. Braak's father, Dr. Larry Braak, lives in Grand Haven. "I love living in Haiti,' Tom Braak said. Helping Haitians deal with the harsh realities of life in a poor country has been a daunting task for Braak - but it is one in which he cherishes.

Braak, whose organization helps small villages throughout the mountainous region of Haiti, has already seen progress from teaching Haitians such things as soil conservation, animal husbandry and reforestation. His organization is also involved in efforts to provide clean drinking water for the Haitians.
