The food distribution is part of the regular Emergency Food Assistance Program coordinated by the Ottawa County Community Action Agency. This month, there is an excess of food being released from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is where this food originates. Each qualified family will receive two boxes of free food.
Guidelines are income-based and verified only verbally at time of pickup. Individuals who receive TANF, Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid or food stamps are automatically eligible.
Each box of food contains a variable number of the following: apple juice, applesauce, corn and rice cereal biscuits, corn cereal squares, cherry-apple juice, corn, cranberry-apple juice, creamed corn, milk, mixed fruit, peaches, peanut butter, dried plums, canned port, whole grain rotini, canned salmon, tomato soup, spaghetti and canned tuna.
