Coopersville & Marne Railway Troop Train on Memorial Day is free for veterans

The Coopersville & Marne Railway Company will host the ninth annual Veterans Free Troop Train on Monday, May 30 - which is Memorial Day. Passengers will ride in coaches that once transported troops on their way to World War II and the Korean War. The railroad cars were used in the 1988 movie, "Biloxi Blues,' which highlighted the troop trains from that era. Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms. Tell the ticket agent that you are a veteran and the ticket is free. All other passengers pay $7.50.

There will be two departures of the Veterans Free Troop Train:  11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. On-board refreshments will be served by Muskegon-area Boy Scouts.

Upon the return of the first train to Coopersville at 12:15, the passengers will be met by a flag-waving, brass band reception provided by the Coopersville Community Band and Miss Coopersville.
