Shelby’s Place is named after a 5-year-old Rottweiler mix who suffered burns to her ears, nose and around her eyes after being set on fire in April 2003. Due to her intense medical needs, she received treatment at Harbor Humane Society nearly two years until she died in September 2004. Shelby symbolized all animals who suffer at the hands of thoughtless human beings, Harbor Humane Society officials said.
