Sharkey joins mayoral race as write-in candidate

Another hat has been thrown into the ring for the race for Grand Haven mayor. Grand Haven resident and business owner Ken Sharkey has entered the race as a write-in candidate. Sharkey and his wife, Sandy, reside in the downtown area and own Commercial Contractors Inc. Sharkey joins former City Council member Geri McCaleb, who filed a petition to become a mayoral candidate earlier this month.

The two are looking to fill the seat currently held by Mayor Roger Bergman. Bergman announced earlier this year that he would not run for re-election after serving on City Council for the past 12 years.

what kind of education does this guy have??? to run the city of Grand Haven.

The mayor of Grand Haven is largely a ceremonial post. The person who shows up to Ribbon cuttings and photos etc. The mayor has little to no direct power. Just ask McGinnis. He pretty much runs the show, which is why we are in the position we are in.
