Intro to sculpting class is June 2 and 9

A two-night beginner's class in sculpting with clay will be offered at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 E. Eighth St., in June. The course is intended for beginning sculptors interested in learning how to recreate a likeness in clay. The instructor is Dr. Ryan Dodde, a local surgeon and artist.

The class will be taught during two evening sessions. The first two-hour session on Thursday, June 2, will focus on learning the facial canons (or proportions) and applying them to sculpture. Using a provided photo, the student will learn techniques for taking facial measurements and converting them to scale.

During the second session on Thursday, June 9, participants will apply the measurements to the clay and create the likeness.
