LaughFest to return to Grand Rapids in 2012

A festival of laughter in Grand Rapids that raised $330,000 for a nonprofit organization this year will return in 2012. Organizers announced Tuesday that Gilda's LaughFest will return March 8-18 with more comedy, stage shows and films. The festival sponsored by the nonprofit Gilda's Club Grand Rapids honors the memory of comedian Gilda Radner, who died of ovarian cancer in 1989.

For the kickoff this year, organizers sought to break the Guinness World Record for the number of people tossing rubber chickens at one time, and volunteers tossed 925. Officials said they were notified earlier this month that the record was certified.

Headliners of this year’s 10-day festival included Betty White and Bill Cosby, and reportedly drew about 55,000 people.
