‘Rocket Fish’ more than just a hit with local businesses

As community art project, the "Rocket Fish' fundraiser is drawing more than just interest from local businesses. "My daughter and I were shopping, and we saw them in front of the store where they were selling them,' Gordon said.

Looking for a unique wedding gift for a relative celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary, the “Rocket Fish” minnow was the right thing to buy, Gordon said. Fifth anniversary gifts are wood, as are the fish.

“The only thing we could think of was a picture frame, and this (the minnow) was so unusual,” Gordon said.

Randy Smith — owner of Michigan Rag, 121 Washington Ave., and the one who created the “Rocket Fish” concept — said so far, in addition to the minnows that have been sold, 59 of the larger fish have been sold.
