Participants sought for Spring Lake Memorial Day Parade

Spring Lake Heritage Festival committee members encourage residents and veterans to dress in red, white and blue to march in the annual Memorial Day parade on Monday morning. The parade is scheduled to step out from the corner of Exchange and Buchanan streets at 10:30 a.m. "Families are encouraged to decorate their trikes, bikes and wagons,' Heritage Festival spokeswoman Michele Yasenak said. "We ask that any participants in the parade invite a veteran or active military to be a part of their entry.'

Spring Lake High School Honor Society students will pass out more than 2,000 American flags along the route, according to Yasenak.

The parade heads east on Exchange, south on Lake Avenue, east on River Street, then north on Fruitport Road. The procession ends at the Spring Lake Township Cemetery with a ceremony honoring veterans.

Yasenak said the Heritage Festival Committee will prepare banners for veterans who will be joining Monday’s parade. Call 616-405-1970 for more information.
