Final paving complete on Washington Avenue

After several years of constant construction, work is almost complete on Washington Avenue. On Friday morning, construction contractors came and paved the third and final block of the downtown street, and all three blocks are slated to be open to traffic today. Originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday morning, inclement weather forced crews to come back on Friday. "I guess this means that the Memorial Day parade can come right down the new street,' Grand Haven Special Projects Manager Julie Beaton said.

To celebrate the completion of the Washington Avenue reconstruction project, the city has planned a celebration on June 11 in downtown Grand Haven.
