Grand Haven marks Memorial Day

Memorial Day 2011 was marked in Grand Haven on Monday morning with a short but sun-filled parade on a newly paved Washington Avenue. George Bennett, a local veteran, served as the parade's grand marshal. A ceremony was held at Waterfront Stadium following the parade. Joe Schulte, a Grand Haven public safety officer and member of the National Guard who most recently served in Iraq, was the keynote speaker.

There is a gallery of the photos from the parade on our Photos page, and a video of Bennett reciting Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address" at the ceremony on our Video page. More details on the day's events will be published in Tuesday's Tribune, and more photos and videos from the Grand Haven and Spring Lake parades will be posted online on Monday.
