Columbus Ave. awaits decision from City Council

Although construction in downtown Grand Haven has been completed, city officials are still trying to determine what to do with Columbus Avenue from Harbor Drive to Fourth Street. "Until (City Council) acts on it, it is going to stay how it is,' City Manager Pat McGinnis said of the current partial two-way configuration. The street was converted to allow two-way from Fourth Street to Harbor Drive during the onset of the downtown reconstruction project to allow for traffic to detour Washington Avenue.

In the meantime, a report prepared recently by city engineer Brian Vilmont — from the firm Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber — indicated that changing Columbus from one-way to two-way traffic would create conflict for truck traffic.
