Grand Haven to celebrate completion of downtown improvements

Grand Haven's Main Street Downtown Development Authority will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the completion of a 20-month infrastructure and streetscape reconstruction project. The ribbon cutting will take place at Pocket Park between Fifth Third Bank and Jumpin' Java on Washington Avenue. From noon to 3 p.m. there will be free food, T-shirts and other giveaways, and live music in all three blocks.

The event will honor the the installation of a snowmelt system beneath the street, new curbs and sidewalk surfaces within the first three blocks of Washington Avenue, replacement public utilities, new streetlights and traffic signals, new signs and new streetscape elements.
