Lakeshore Middle School Principal Julia Houle ends 40-year career

Family and friends gathered in the media center at Lakeshore Middle School on Wednesday night for Principal Julia Houle's retirement open house. Houle, 63, will end a 40-year career in education on Friday, the last day of school for Lakeshore students. She said she has enjoyed the chance to make an impact on children during a critical time in their learning. Educators also face significant challenges, both current and future, she said.

Houle’s career as an educator started in Muskegon Public Schools, where she taught for 23 years, she said. She moved to Grand Haven Area Public Schools, where she worked as the assistant high school principal for two years. That was when Lakeshore’s building housed Grand Haven High School — the school from which she graduated, she said.

Houle then became Lakeshore Middle School’s principal, where she has spent the past 15 years making good memories with staff and students, she said.
