St. John’s wins Cool School Competition

St. John's Lutheran School was the overall champion in this year's Cool School Competition between area elementary schools at the ice cream shops Sweet Temptations, Skoops and The Front Porch. The Cool School Competition placed schools at each store, and the school received 10 percent of the sales for the day. The school with the highest sales then received an additional 10 percent of their competing schools' sales.

At Sweet Temptations, Grand Haven Christian School received $343.01. At The Front Porch in Spring Lake, Holmes Elementary School handily beat second place Jeffers with $858.24. At Skoops, St. John’s Lutheran School won $1,569.65.

“Not only was this a great fundraiser for us, this was a fun day of fellowship for our community as well,” St. John’s Lutheran School Administrator Laura Harvey said.

The check amount at Front Porch was increased to $1,000 to celebrate the retirement of Holmes Principal Mary Keeton.

Holmes has won four years in a row, and St. John’s has won the competition since it started at Skoops.

Since the competition began, the local ice cream stores have given back more than $20,000 to local schools, owner Kelly Larson said.
