Debra Scholz, the president of the Spring Lake Educational Support Personnel Association — which represents Spring Lake Public Schools’ 12 custodians — said the district’s custodians could lose their jobs despite offering concessions like wage freezes for three years.
The school board is considering a proposal from Reliant Professional Cleaning that would save the district $314,000 per year over the current arrangements, according to SLPS Director of Operations Liz Boeve. When three private companies submitted bids for SLPS custodial services, the district’s current employees also submitted a bid outlining concessions and other cost-saving measures.
Currently, the district spends $712,000 per year on its custodial services — including wages, supplies and benefits, Boeve said. That number would drop to $645,557 after concessions.
