Special-edition Sand Sculpture T-shirts now available

Organizers of the upcoming Sand Sculpture Contest said they don't want the significance of the event's 30th anniversary to go unnoticed. "Thirty years of Sand Sculpture Contest is really something to celebrate,' said the event's coordinator, Courtney Olson of the Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven-Spring Lake-Ferrysburg. Olson organized a slogan contest in April, with the intent to have the winning slogan printed on special-edition Sand Sculpture Contest T-shirts. "Come Share Our Sandbox' titled the winning entry.

“Kit Silvis of Grand Haven submitted this entry,” Olson said. “The committee thought it captured the spirit of the Sand Sculpture Contest and our community."

The 30th annual Sand Sculpture Contest will take place Saturday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at Grand Haven City Beach. That morning — like during the contests in the past 30 years — the beach will be transformed into a giant sandbox as dozens of teams and hundreds of participants form art out of sand.

The special-edition T-shirts are for sale at the Chamber of Commerce, 1 S. Harbor Ave.; and The Paper Place, 118 Washington Ave., for $10 each. Olson said proceeds from the sales will go toward the event’s expenses.
