The most recent “Kids Count” report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, released this week, indicated that 40 percent of children born in Michigan were born to unwed mothers in 2009. The Michigan League for Human Services found a 20-percent increase among single mothers between 2000 and 2009, and that two of every three births to women age 20-24 were to single mothers.
Snavely will speak on how this trend impacts child well-being, crime, poverty, educational outcomes and the cost of government social services. He will also suggest ways for concerned citizens to take action to strengthen the family, while preserving foundational principles such as limited government and religious freedom.
The meeting will be held at the Howard Miller Community Center & Library, 14 S. Church St. in Zeeland.
