Rain garden workshop today at Little Red House

The Little Red House will host a free rain garden educational workshop from 4-7 p.m. today at 311 E. Exchange St. The public is also invited to watch the construction of a rain garden at the adult day care facility beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday and continuing throughout the day. Ohio-based Complete Aquatics personnel will manage the rain garden installation. The ecological feature is designed to catch stormwater runoff from the facility's new garage, which was built with donations from the 100 Women Who Care philanthropic group.

Jody Herrelko, CEO of The Little Red House, said the garage is used to house the organization’s transport bus.

“We are excited about this addition and are happy that our bus will be protected from the elements — especially during the winter months,” she said.

When Herrelko approached the Spring Lake Village Planning Commission earlier this year with a site plan for the garage, commissioners asked that a rain garden be incorporated into the design.

Herrelko asks that those who plan to attend the rain garden workshop register in advance by calling Complete Aquatics at 1-888-6688 or e-mail info@completeaquatics.
