New murals add color to Waterfront Stadium

The end of Washington Avenue is now more colorful thanks in part to the installation of new artwork on the back of the Waterfront Stadium bleachers. The Grand Haven Main Street Downtown Development Authority Preservation Committee recently installed murals on the back of the bleachers. The images came from historic postcards from the late 1800s and early 1900s that depict scenes from the Grand Haven community. "Our goal is to keep it up year-round,' said Dana Kollewehr, the authority's executive director.

Authority member Randy Smith said the idea for the mural came last fall when the DDA was approached about the unattractive nature of the stadium bleachers.

Acting on this, DDA volunteers searched old images at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum’s archives, and found some old black-and-white postcards and photographs that could be turned into murals.
