Village sidewalk project ahead of schedule

Sidewalk construction is ahead of schedule along River Street, according to Village Manager Ryan Cotton. The sidewalk installation, part of a $223,000 Safe Routes to School federal and state grant, includes River Street from Lake Avenue to Fruitport Road. Next week, sidewalk pouring is scheduled for the west side of Fruitport Road north to Lakeside Trail. Also included in Safe Routes to School construction was the west side of Prospect, north of Exchange and South Street, which was completed earlier this summer.

“The idea is to shorten the distance that a pedestrian needs to walk by having these concrete bumpouts,” Cotton said.
