Work to begin Aug. 1 on North Bank Trail

Construction is scheduled to begin Aug. 1 on the 10-foot-wide nonmotorized trail from Fruitport Road to 130th Avenue. Spring Lake Township Manager Gordon Gallagher said work will be conducted between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. He said some work may take place on Saturdays. The targeted completion date is Oct. 7. Once completed, Gallagher said the project will include boardwalks, scenic overlooks, a wetland mitigation area and a trailhead at 144th Avenue.

While construction is in progress, Gallagher urges residents and nearby property owners to restrict their usage of the area until the work is done. He also asks people to be aware of construction equipment in the area.

The North Bank Trail is being constructed as part of a project being completed by the Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, Ottawa County Road Commission, and Spring Lake and Crockery townships.

Gallagher said anyone who has questions or concerns during construction is asked to call the Spring Lake Township office at 842-1340; Crockery Township at 837-6868; or Prein & Newhof at 231-798-0101, ext. 1204. He also said residents can talk to one of the construction observers who will be onsite during the work.
