GH mayor's race gets 2nd write-in candidate

A second write-in candidate has joined the race to become Grand Haven's next mayor, facing candidate Geri McCaleb and write-in candidate Ken Sharkey. Chris Collett, a U.S. Army veteran from the war in Iraq, annouced his intentions today to run as a write-in candidate for the position. According to Collett, he is running as "an energetic and committed candidate, who is intent upon the revival of a great American city with amazing resources and people to offer to the country.'

“I wish to increase the capital flow into our city, and at the same time cut out unnecessary inefficiencies,” he said.

Collett was raised in Grand Haven and attended Grand Haven High School. Following his stint in the Army, he returned to Grand Haven.

Oct. 28 is the deadline to file as a write-in candidate for the November election. McCaleb is the only name that will appear on the ballot for the two-year term as mayor.

The post will be vacated by Roger Bergman, who decided not to seek re-election this year after serving eight years as Grand Haven's mayor.
