Work on Exchange Street to start Tuesday

Motorists are encouraged to avoid Exchange Street next week while road work is being done at the intersections of Prospect and Williams streets. Traffic calming devices called "bumpouts' are being installed as part of the village's Safe Routes to School grant project. Similar devices are in use at Jackson and Exchange streets. Eastbound Exchange Street traffic will be detoured down Meridian to River Street to Lake Avenue. Westbound traffic will be the reverse.

Detour signs are scheduled to go up Tuesday afternoon and construction is expected to last three to four weeks, according to Village Manager Ryan Cotton.

The work is a continuation of the $224,000 Safe Routes to School program funded by the Federal Highway Administration, and administered by the Michigan Department of Lansing and the Michigan Fitness Foundation.

Call Village Hall at 842-1393 for more information.
