Tonight’s Street Dance, water ski show postponed

Two popular Coast Guard Festival events scheduled for tonight - the Grand City Skiers and the downtown Street Dance - have been postponed until Wednesday evening because of the stormy weather forecast, said Coast Guard Festival Executive Director Mike Smith. "The predictions are terrible,' he said this morning. "It's predicted to be 70-percent precipitation the entire evening.'

The two events will be held at the same times and locations on Wednesday. The Grand City Skiers will perform at 7 p.m. in front of Waterfront Stadium; and the Street Dance will run from 8-10:30 p.m. on Washington Avenue, between Third and Fourth streets.

The Youth Ambassador program, which normally runs just prior to the Street Dance, has been canceled, Smith said.

The Coast Guard Golf Tournament is running today and Kids Day events will go on as long as possible, Smith said.

“We’re going to try to get at least two hours in,” he said of Kids Day at Mulligan’s Hollow, which was scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Tonight’s carnival will run as long as the weather holds, Smith said. It was scheduled to open at 6 p.m. on Washington Avenue, between Harbor Drive and Third Street.

The Ransom Street Band, scheduled to perform at Waterfront Stadium on Wednesday night, has been canceled in lieu of the popular and free Street Dance, Smith said.
