SL Township board to reconsider fire service contract with village tonight

The Township Board will revisit discussions on a fire service contract with the Village of Spring Lake at 7 p.m. today at Township Hall, 106 S. Buchanan St. Last month, the contract approval failed due to a tie vote. Clerk Carolyn Boersma was absent from the July 11 meeting, and is expected back Monday night to break the tie. The agreement, an updated version of the original 1976 contract between the township and the village, does not raise the $12,000 rate that the village has paid since the contract was first signed.

A new provision of the contract states that if the township passes a fire millage in the future, the village will no longer owe the annual fee.
