Downtown sidewalk sale matches bargains with bargain hunters

Downtown Grand Haven streets will be filled with deals instead of wheels this Friday and Saturday during the Grand Haven Annual Sidewalk Sale. The first three blocks of Washington Avenue, from Harbor Drive to Third Street, will be closed to traffic so merchants and buyers can meet to find the best deals. "We have more businesses within our overall district (participating) than we have had in the last few years,' Grand Haven Main Street Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Dana Kollewehr said.

Kollewehr said not only are there businesses from downtown Grand Haven participating this year, but businesses from Centertown and Chinook Pier will be involved in the event.

“This sidewalk sale is a great opportunity to shop your favorite stores and experience new businesses,” Kollewehr said. “Most of the retailers will be outside, at one place, at one time. It’s a fun event that people look forward to every year.”

Sholeh Veiseh, owner of Down to Earth at 105 Washington, said the sidewalk sales bring many people downtown. She called the event one of her best days of the year for sales.

The sidewalk sales take place Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also taking place this weekend is the Art on the Riverfront, located near Grand Haven Municipal Marina. The juried art show takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
