SL Baptist Church to host free Street Party

There will be magic in the air Saturday at the First Baptist Church annual Street Party. Colorado magician David Laflin will perform at noon and 2 p.m. at the free event. It will also include food, games, crafts, kiddie train, inflatable 60-foot maze, climbing tower, double-lane slide, dunk tank and a fire truck. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church parking lot, 118 E. Exchange St., across from the Spring Lake District Library.

“It’s a party we throw every year for the community, to bless the community,” said Pastor Doug Bytwerk. “It’s a free gift to the community. This year, we’re flying a magician in from Colorado. He’s particularly good. He’s a new addition for us and it will be a lot of fun.”

Laflin will also perform close-up magic throughout the afternoon, according to Bytwerk.

Church volunteers will serve up roast pork with all the trimmings, hot dogs, snow cones, cotton candy and popcorn. All food is free.

The event typically draws more than 2,000 people, Bytwerk said.

“It’s a back-to-school street party,” the pastor said. “It’s kind of the last fun event of the summer.”
