Fog House open for viewing on Labor Day morning

The Third Street bridge walk on Monday will include an opportunity to view the inside of the Grand Haven fog house. The structure at the end of the Grand Haven south pier is managed by the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy, in conjunction with the city. "This year, the Labor Day Bridge Walk will lead participants to the pier head,' said Dave Karpin, president of the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy. "At that point, folks who wish to continue can come out to the fog house and see inside.'

Karpin said the group is inviting the public to visit the structure, ask questions and support their efforts.

“The purpose is to create public awareness about the deteriorating condition of the lighthouse structures and to bring light to what we are trying to accomplish through the Lighthouse Conservancy,” he said.

The fog house will be open to the public, weather permitting, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday.

The Labor Day Bridge Walk will begin at the Third Street Bridge at 9 a.m.
