Holland painting exhibit has NYC/W. Mich. roots

An exhibition of new paintings by New York City and West Michigan artists opens Friday, Sept. 9, at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 E. Eighth St. The paintings will be on display at there through Nov. 5. Mike Coleman, Adam Dahlstrom, Derek Johnson, Tyler Loftis, Chris Protas, Dov Talpaz and Ellen Trumbo have shown as a group frequently over the past decade. Based in New York and West Michigan, these artists have worked together since meeting at art school in Greenwich Village in the mid-1990s.

Beginning in 2004, those who remained in the city began organizing what became a series of group shows under the name “Painting In New York.” Their most recent show took place in Chelsea in May.

Locally, they have organized multiple shows in Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Holland and Grand Rapids.
