Basics of canning, freezing food taught Sept. 14

What to do with all those extra tomatoes, zucchini and other produce from your garden? Preserving food at home can be a great way to eat more healthfully, to eat locally and save money. Michigan State University Extension educator Monica Smith will teach the basics of pressure canning, hot-water bath canning and freezing methods of preserving food on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Loutit District Library. The program is free and will be held in the library's Program Room A from 7-8:30 p.m.
