Project on U.S. 31 in Muskegon to begin Monday

Construction of a weave/merge lane on southbound U.S. 31 from Apple Avenue to Laketon Avenue is scheduled to begin Monday. The Michigan Department of Transportation said the project will take about two months to complete. Pavement improvements will include concrete joint repairs, shoulder and ramp resurfacing, and diamond grinding on U.S. 31 from Hile Road to M-46, and on Interstate 96 to the west and east of U.S. 31.

The M-46 ramps to southbound U.S. 31 will be closed Monday morning. Single-lane closures will occur on weekends, from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday; and on weeknights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Ramp closures will be announced in advance to the public.

The addition of a third southbound lane on U.S. 31 will provide safer merging and improved traffic flow between Apple and Laketon avenues, MDOT officials said.
