City Council to consider adopting PSD plan on Monday

Downtown Grand Haven business will know more on Monday if a new Principal Shopping District and special assessment for their district will be implemented. City Council is being asked to consider a Master Plan amendment that includes language regarding a PSD within the city's downtown development authority (DDA) boundaries, as well as resolutions designating the city's Main Street DDA Board as the PSD board, and setting a special assessment for the PSD.

“We are hopeful that council will move this process forward,” MSDDA Executive Director Dana Kollewehr said.

For the past several months, officials from the DDA have been working on implementing the PSD. There have been numerous meetings with stakeholders — those who would be impacted by the proposal.

“I think that the process has been a positive one — in terms of getting out the information and getting good, constructive feedback from the stakeholders,” Kollewehr said.

The MSDDA expects to collect about $380,000 during the first five years of the PSD for promotion and marketing projects.

City Council meets at City Hall, 519 Washington Ave., at 7:30 p.m. A work session is scheduled for 7 p.m.
