He will be among more than 400 participants who are expected to walk 4.5 miles in the annual Tri-Cities C.R.O.P. (Community Response to Overcoming Poverty) Hunger Walk on Sunday, Oct. 2.
This year’s event is being hosted by Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. It will begin and end at the church, 760 E. Savidge St. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the walk will start at 2 p.m.
“Thanks to the leadership in the Tri-Cities, all the churches have done a marvelous job of promoting the walk,” Jackson said.
This year, Jackson and other local organizers are hoping to raise $40,000. The money is distributed locally, nationally and internationally, he said.
Jackson said 25 percent of the money raised will go to food pantries operated by Love INC, The People Center in Spring Lake and The Salvation Army. The remaining money will go to U.S. states devastated by hurricanes, floods and tornadoes; and to famine-stricken countries.
Anyone interested in participating can register online at www.cropwalkonline.org/grandhavenmi. For additional information or to volunteer, call Jeanette at Love INC at 846-2701 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
