GH Farmers Market to be moved during parking lot work

Visitors to Grand Haven's Farmers Market will be going to a temporary location in October. According to Kristen Klempel, manager of the market for the Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven-Spring Lake-Ferrysburg, beginning Oct. 5 and running through the rest of the market season on Oct. 29, the Farmers Market will be located at the Grand Haven Municipal Marina. The move is due to construction at the Chinook Pier parking lot where the Farmers Market is usually located.

“We plan on starting (construction) that first week of October,” said Sam Janson, assistant to City Manager Pat McGinnis.

Construction crews are going to come in and repair the parking lot by fixing drainage issues, making the parking lot more handicap accessible and improving the dumpster enclosure.

“I think the vendors will be very happy because they’ve had lots of issues with rain in that location,” Janson said.

Klempel said they expect to be back at the permanent Farmers Market location next year.

“Everything should be all ready for next season,” she said.
