City turns on its new splash pad

It might have been the start of fall, but Grand Haven Rotarians flipped on the switch Friday to a new splash pad aimed at keeping people cool in the summer heat. "I am delighted that it works - we literally finished this morning,' said Dr. Kennard Creason, past president of the Rotary Club of Grand Haven. "It's going to be a lot of fun. It was great to see the kids running around in it.' According to Creason, the Rotary Club raised $245,000 for the $240,000 project from many local individuals and organizations.

“We have a little bit of money left over that we can put in the Splash Pad Fund at the (Grand Haven Area) Community Foundation that will be used for major expenditures here in the future,” Creason said.

The splash pad, located between Chinook Pier and the Municipal Marina, has a computer-controlled program operating 17 different nozzles that provide a variety of water features. It taps into the city’s water system and drains into the Grand River.
