Indie Rock Festival rocks downtown Grand Haven

Downtown Grand Haven was hopping Friday night during the Indie Rock Festival, held in the first block of Washington Avenue. The event, which continues at 6 tonight, features 10 bands over the two-day period. Festival organizer Mike Coleman said combining the Indie Rock Festival with ArtWalk made sense. "Music is art and we thought we would combine the two," he said. "It's the opening weekend of ArtWalk so we thought it was a perfect fit." Grand Haven Main Street DDA Executive Director Dana Kollewehr agreed.

“We definitely think the addition of the Indie Rock Festival was a natural fit for the Grand Haven Art Walk," she said. "It’s another extension of the arts and another way to express art. We’ve got visual arts expressed heavily in the ArtWalk competition and we thought we’d bring in the musical element as well. They complement each other so well.”
