Tails on Trails on Oct. 8 is a Harbor Humane Society benefit

Harbor Humane Society's largest annual fundraiser, the Tails on Trails Dog Walk, will take place Saturday, Oct. 8, at Ottawa County's Kirk Park in West Olive. The public is invited to participate in the festivities - which include a walk along Lake Michigan, microchipping, contests, informational booths, carnival games for dogs and refreshments. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the walk starting at 11 a.m. A dog is not required for participation. The animal shelter will hold a raffle during the event, with winners drawn that day.

Proceeds from both the dog walk and the raffle will be used to support the shelter’s animal welfare and community outreach programs.

Participants are urged to raise donations to help Harbor Humane Society care for thousands of animals each year and to support various community education programs. The registration fee is $25, or a minimum $25 in pledges. Register before the event at the Harbor Humane Society, 14345 Bagley St. in West Olive, for $20.

The top three money raisers will receive prizes.

Raffle prizes are $1,000 cash, $500 cash, and a weekend stay at the Harbor House Inn bed and breakfast in Grand Haven. Other raffle prizes include an overnight stay at the Courtyard by Marriott, an overnight stay at the Country Inn and Suites, Grand Rapids Griffins tickets, Frederik Meijer Gardens tickets, a Bissell vacuum, a one-year gym membership, a one-year John Ball Zoo membership and gift certificates to several local restaurants.
