Social Media Workshop returns under new name

The local Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Social Media Workshop will begin its third year on Friday, Oct. 7, with a session on blogging presented by Chad Huntley of Element Design. Formally known as 2E Network, Social Media Workshop is a monthly gathering to educate the business community on the constantly growing and changing form of communication, public image and marketing tool known as social media. Topics and presenters vary every month, while the general focus of social media remains constant.

The workshops are coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven-Spring Lake-Ferrysburg. They are held on the first Friday of the month, from October through June, at 7:30 a.m.

“Social Media Workshop is a beneficial event for business professionals throughout our community,” coordinator Courtney Olson said. “Our goal is to keep everyone updated on the latest changes, educate on ways to utilize a certain form of social media, discuss how to manage multiple accounts, and overall to form a support network of area businesses on social media through meeting face to face.”

According to Huntley, the first presenter, implementing a blog into a company’s website is the single most important factor in search engine optimization.

“A blog gives the ability to provide fresh content to users, which in turn gives the company the opportunity to expand their website into an unlimited number of pages,” he said.

The Nov. 4 session will feature a presentation by Paige Brockmyre of NeXt I.T. on LinkedIn for Business.

The Dec. 2 workshop looks at tips and tools for managing multiple social media platforms. It will be presented by Christopher VanOosterhout, an instructor at Muskegon Community College.

For more information on the workshop, or to register, call the Chamber office at 842-4910 or e-mail Olson at colson@grandhaven chamber.org.

The cost to attend is $15 for Chamber members and $20 for nonmembers, and a continental breakfast will be provided.
