‘Pop Go the Sailors’ alumnus show is Oct. 22

With each graduating class from Mona Shores High School, a few of the former choir students continue with his or her singing and establish careers in the performing arts. They share their music with the West Michigan community, and with people in many cities and countries around the world.

Six years ago, an endowment fund was established for the Mona Shores Choir through the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. The fund was created in an effort to keep voices singing and provide Mona Shores choir students the opportunity to participate in trips and voice lessons. Traditionally, each spring, MSHS choirs present a “Pop Go the Sailors” show, featuring student-created specialty acts and vocal performances by all choir students.

“Pop Go the Sailors: Home Again 2” is the second alumnus fundraiser show, and will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts. The show will feature performers from every decade since the school was established more than 50 years ago.

Tickets are available through StarTickets or through the Frauenthal box office at 231-727-8001. Tickets are $20 with proceeds going to the Mona Shores Choir Fund through the Community Foundation of Muskegon County.

Tickets are also available for an afterglow reception for $5 when you order your tickets. The reception will be immediately following the show in the Gallery of the Hilt Building, 425 W. Western Ave. in downtown Muskegon. A cash bar will be available.

World music is all around, ranges from aboriginal forms of music in different parts of the world to culture combination music such as new age music. Western pop and western conventional music are not measured world music.
