Chiropractors hope to promote wellness during community event on Oct. 15

Chiropractors Mike Weiss and Matt Dirkse are hoping their new community event scheduled for later this month in downtown Grand Haven raises awareness about total wellness. "This is a way to give back to such an amazing community,' said Dirkse, who owns Healthzone Chiropractic in Grand Haven. Dirkse and Weiss, who owns Weiss Chiropractic Wellness Center in Spring Lake, have been working on the event for some time and are placing an emphasis of promoting total wellness.

“It’s called Community Wellness Day,” Dirkse said. “It’s a national event that takes place over a three-week period.”

The local event is free and scheduled to take place from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Covenant Life Church, 101 Columbus Ave. Dirkse and Weiss said that the event is benefiting the Spread the Music Foundation.

“For a lot of people, there is not a great idea for what (wellness) actually means,” Weiss said.

To help answer the question of what wellness is, the two chiropractors are planning to feature more than 30 local businesses and organizations who will be on hand to promote wellness. These organizations will be sharing their programs on car and bicycle safety, Internet safety, identity fraud protection, financial literacy, health screenings, drug/alcohol awareness, and senior services.

Local police agencies will also be on hand to provide information on child and family safety, and fire departments will provide fire prevention and safety tips.
Weiss said there is going to be so much information available that everyone should be able to learn something from the event.
