Chow Hound opens in Grand Haven

A pet food and supply store with more than two decades of experience and roots tied to West Michigan has opened its doors in Grand Haven. Chow Hound opened late last month at 628 N. Beacon Blvd., the former site of a Sleep Doctor Mattress store. Sleep Doctor has moved to a plaza across the street at 465 N. Beacon Blvd.

“This store will provide Grand Haven- and Muskegon-area pet owners with a very convenient location for premium pet food and products — many of which they can’t get in grocery stores” said Tyson Keane, co-owner of the Grand Rapids-based company. “We’re excited to expand our involvement in the Lakeshore community beyond our Holland location.”

Tyson and his brother, Greg, opened the first Chow Hound Pet Supply store in Grand Rapids in 1989. With the opening of the Grand Haven store, they now operate seven Chow Hound locations in West Michigan.

“We are a locally owned and family-operated business,” Grand Haven store manager Josh Wiser said.

Wiser said the store offers a full line of pet food, litter, bird seed and other pet accessories, and they also try to work with local vendors and manufacturers to provide local products to customers.

An official grand opening celebration is scheduled to take place Oct. 22-23.
