Huizenga and his volunteers spent many hours building the website and compiling a list of local nonprofit groups interested in participating in the project.
Currently, Spring Lake High School seniors need to complete 18 hours of volunteer service before graduation. Huizenga said he recognized the need to assist the students in finding places to volunteer, and the benefit the community would receive from utilizing these volunteers.
Huizenga said he hopes his website will grow to include many more opportunities for senior students to volunteer and give back to their community.
Nonprofit organizations in Spring Lake, Grand Haven and surrounding communities with a need for senior student volunteers and an interest in being a part of this project can get more information at www.seniorservicehours.x10.bz, or visit the SLHS website (www.springlakeschools.org) in the “more service opportunities” section of the “Senior Service Hours” page.
