New GH City Council to be sworn in tonight

Grand Haven's newly elected City Council will be holding its first meeting tonight at City Hall, 519 Washington Ave. The city will be holding a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. with the purpose of swearing in of the new council.

Geri McCaleb was elected mayor Nov. 8. She will take over for Roger Bergman, who served on City Council for the past 12 years. Bergman did not seek re-election this year.

Also being sworn in tonight are John Hierholzer, who is replacing Ed Nieuwenhuis. Like Bergman, Nieuwenhuis did not run for re-election.

Councilman Mike Fritz was re-elected Nov. 8 to a new four-year term.

Other items on tonight’s special meeting agenda include the election of a new mayor pro-tem, the appointment of members to the Audit Committee, and the appointment of McCaleb to the Main Street Downtown Development Authority.
