Hope College Orchestra to perform Saturday

The Hope College Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Dimnent Memorial Chapel, 277 College Ave. in Holland.

The public is invited and admission is free.

The concert will open with the “Overture to Coriolanus,” by Ludwig van Beethoven. Soprano Caitlin McDougall, who is a senior from Flint, will be joined by 10 cellos from the orchestra in Heitor Villa-Lobos’ “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 for soprano and orchestra of violoncelli.” To conclude the concert, the orchestra will perform “Symphony No. 5, in D major, Op. 107” (the “Reformation Symphony”), by Felix Mendelssohn.

The Hope College Orchestra is directed by Richard Piippo, associate professor of music.
