Fun and useful items will be up for bids in a silent auction.
Favorite items for the parents each year are pottery pieces made by Mary A. White students at the Ceramic Cafe in downtown Grand Haven. This year, the pottery has a theme: Each pottery piece was inspired by a favorite book selected by the artists. A copy of the book will be included with each piece.
The auction, while festive and cheerful, is not all fun and games, according to Mary A. White Principal Valerie Livingston.
“The level of activities our children are able to enjoy are a direct result of fundraising efforts by the PTA,” she said.
Livingston said the PTA allows the school to bring in cultural arts assemblies, send students on field trips, and update and maintain the school’s playground equipment.
Mary A. White PTA President Robin O’Conner said the auction raises about one-third of all the money needed to support the school’s activities.
“We always get a good turnout from the parents, but the auction is open to the public also,” O’Conner said.
Up for grabs this year are gift certificates for products and services donated by local merchants, a night’s stay at an inn on Crystal Lake, an airplane ride, an iPod Touch, and tickets to a Muskegon Lumberjacks game.
The event will include snacks and refreshments, including a cash bar.
