Since 1939, the Goodfellows of the American Legion have collected toys and distributed them to less fortunate families in the Tri-Cities area. Local firefighters joined that effort in 1959.

The Grand Haven Township Fire Department will man posts at the Walmart store and the Admiral gas station on U.S. 31, south of Grand Haven, from 6-8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The firefighters will do the same schedule the next two weekends.

New toys and cash donations will also be accepted at the fire station, 13250 168th Ave.

The other Northwest Ottawa County fire departments will be taking donations the two weekends following Thanksgiving.

Area merchants will also have bins for the collections. New, unwrapped toys may also be dropped off at the American Legion, 900 Harbor Ave.
