Congressman to host Military Academy Night in GH on Nov. 28

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga will host his second Military Academy Night on Monday, Nov. 28. The event provides area students and their parents a casual evening to learn about the process involved in applying for admission to a U.S. Service Academy.

It will be held at the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Field Office, 650 S. Harbor Ave. in Grand Haven, from 7-9 p.m.

Liaisons from the five military academies have been invited to provide information and staff from Huizenga’s District Office will be available to discuss the congressional nomination process.

“I admire anyone who answers the call to serve our country,” said Huizenga, R-Zeeland. “It is a tremendous honor to be able to help any such motivated and brave young men and women from West Michigan in their application to the U.S. Service Academies, and I look forward to meeting interested students and helping them and their families learn more about the opportunities available at the Academies.”

The academies include the Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Military Academy (West Point), Naval Academy and the Coast Guard Academy.

The event is geared toward high school juniors interested in applying to an academy’s class of 2017; however, students at every grade level who are interested in an education at a military academy may attend to learn more about the process.

The nomination process for the class of 2016 has closed and those nominees will be released by Huizenga next month.
